Continuing my theme of cold, snow and ice, I thought I would post this video. It shows a group of orcas hunting a seal.
The seal has taken refuge on an ice flow where it is assumed that he is out of the reach of the orcas. But the orcas, working together, use large waves to sweep the seal off the ice flow and into the water. Very interesting to watch them working together on this.
Cool Hunting pointed me towards an absolutely amazing site. Jonathan Harris, one of the creators of We Feel Fine, has published for his latest project a photoblog of a traditional whale hunt.
Harris joined a family of Eskimos on their traditional Whale Hunt. Starting from the time he got off the plane, he took a photo every five minutes. Even going so far as to set up a timer to take photos while he was sleeping. Then he put them together into an automated photoblog that documents the whole nine days in five minute increments.
The result is oddly fascinating to watch. Though it can be a bit gruesome at times. I posted a few of the photos here. But as you can imagine, with a photo every five minutes there are tons more to see on his site. So assuming you don’t have a weak stomach I recommend checking it out.
