February 25th, 2008 — Hubble, Lord Of the Rings, Sauron, Science, Space

The above is a picture of Fomalhaut, a star that offers the best evidence of a star system with a complex planetary group orbiting it. The picture was taken using the Hubble telescope.
What makes it interesting, is the strong resemblance to the Eye of Sauron from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan, so this is pretty cool.

January 15th, 2008 — Candy, Lord Of the Rings, Tolkien

Okay, I have to admit it. I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan. When i was growing up I read the books over and over again. I even learned some of the rune alphabet that Tolkien invented.
When the movies came out, I couldn’t get enough. I saw every one in the theater and eagerly awaited the “extended” edition DVDs. But I think my fan cred pales compared to this guy.
He recreated the entire battle of Pelenor fields(that’s the battle where the Orcs try to storm Minas Tirith) in candy. Everything from the city, to the soldiers is candy. The whole battle is represented. Pretty cool. Though as my little brother(He’s 6) would say, “what a waste of good candy!”
