Chasing off raccoons
November 26th, 2007 — Cat, Cats, Dog, Raccoon, Video, Wildlife
The video above is of a dog and a cat teaming up to chase off a raccoon. The raccoon is bigger than the cat and almost as big as the dog, but that doesn’t stop either one of them from chasing the raccoon off the porch. It’s probably a good thing that the owners were there. The raccoon was probably more scared of the people than the dog or cat. Raccoons can be pretty vicious and have been know to kill dogs when cornered.
The video reminded me of a raccoon that decided he was one of my parents cats when I was growing up. He would never let any of us get near him, but he would hang out on the front porch of our house with the other cats we had. Would eat cat food with them and even sleep with them. It was kind of strange. The cats seemed to have completely accepted him. That was the summer we didn’t have a dog. Once we got a dog again, we never saw him or any other raccoons, but it was kind of weird while he was there.

A Cat going Ice Fishing
November 2nd, 2007 — Cats, Fishing, Humor, Video, YouTube
This poor cat can see the fish swimming and moving under the ice. But no matter how hard he tries to get to the fish, he can’t reach them.
This is another one of those pointless and yet interesting videos, like the cat conversation I posted about a few days ago.
Enjoy all the ice fishing fun.

Pointless cat conversation
October 26th, 2007 — Cats, Humor, Video, YouTube
Since my last post was about cats, I thought I would post this one as well. Enjoy this little cat conversation. I think it might be negotiations over a head cleaning. But I’m not sure. Can anyone translate? LOL
LOLCode.Net - A LOLCat programming language
October 26th, 2007 — Captions, Cats, Humor, Meme, Programming, lolcats

A few months ago, I wrote about a humorous site that was trying to make a programming language based on the lol cat language. You know, the funny pictures of cats with captions that are all over the net.
Well, I thought it was nothing but a joke and no real compiler would ever come of it. But I was wrong. A guy has managed to get a version of the code compiling in Visual Studio. You can even debug it.
Talk about having too much time on your hands. This guy must be bored. While building a compiler for a new language on the dot.net platform is supposed to be easier than building a compiler from scratch, it still can’t be all that easy. Anyway, kudos to this guy for getting it done.
Check out his site: LOLCode.net - Now your LOLCats can use the CLR!
The history of house cats
July 27th, 2007 — Cat, Cats, History, House Cats
The Smithsonian magazine has a great article about the history of house cats. Cats have been around humans almost as long as dogs. The ancient Egyptians revered them as sacred, mummified them when they died and buried them in special cemeteries. Today there are about 90 million house cats in the US.
The best quote in the entire article was by Carlos Driscoll, one of the researchers studying the history of cats. He said,
“We think what happened is that the cats sort of domesticated themselves”
That single quote, so fits the image of a house cat.

LoLCode, a programming language for random cats with captions
May 29th, 2007 — Captions, Cats, Funny, Humor, Meme, Programming, lolcats

LolCode is a new(theoretical) programming language based on Anil Dash’s LoLCat grammar dictionary. If you haven’t read it you really should. It’s hilarious. You can find his grammar dictionary at Cats can has grammar.
Anyway, back to the programming language. Here is an example of loop to count to 10.
HA
ICAN HAS STDIO?

I love the beginning and ending tags in the language. Hai and Kthxbye are just great.
