Animator vs. Animation II by *alanbecker on deviantART

A friend of mine, Alexander, who often comments on my blogs, sent me the animation above. I thought it was funny enough that I would post it here. The artist/animator is Alan Becker. Really great work.

Money origami

Turtle money origami
Continuing my theme of Origami, I found a site devoted to money origami. Specifically money folding using dollar bills. Some of the folds are really interesting. Event better is that it looks like some thought was put into how the pictures on the money would show up when the money was folded.

Dwarf Origami

Sax Player OrigamiEric Joisel is an amazing artist from France who does all his work in Origami. the difference is that his work actually doesn’t look like origami. It looks much more like some type of sculpture done with modeling clay. Pretty cool looking.

Watermelon Carvings

Carved Watermelon
Would you believe that the picture above is of a watermelon? Pretty amazing the intricacy you can get carving fruit.

The site I found this on had a bunch more pictures of carved watermelons, but real details on who does this or why. My assumption is that it is meant as a centerpiece for special events. Like a wedding reception or a catered dinner. But that is just a guess.

Follow the link for more pictures of watermelons carved into various shapes.

Books as art

Alice In Wonderland

Georgia Russell creates art by sculpting and cutting books. Much like the work that Brian Dettmer does. What caught my eye though, was the Alice in Wonderland cutouts that she did. It really fits the story.

She also does more abstract work as well. Look at the detail on these books.

A master sculptor, Livio De Marchi, crafts amazing things out of wood. He claims he can make anything out of wood. To prove it he has mad an entire house, furnishings and everything, out of wood. Chairs, sofas, tables, beds, even his car. Which by the way, is street legal, and doubles as a boat. All of it made of wood.

Check out his website for more pictures of his work, and check freshhome for more pictures of his house.
