Insect machines

I found these delightful insect art sculptures by Christopher Conte. He makes them using cast off machine parts and medical paraphernalia. They really are interesting. I posted a few of them here, but he has lots more at his site. So check them out.

Weird sculptures in East Lancashire, England

Singing Tree

The Panopticons are a series of sculptures in Lancashire England that have been built as a showcase for the region. I’m not sure what they were trying to showcase, but the sculptures are weird and strange.

The one that really caught my eye was the singing tree. A huge tree shaped sculpture made from galvanized steel pipes. When the wind blows, the pipes produce a weird spooky sound. Hence the name.

Motorcycles made from watch parts

Watch Motorcyle
Jose Geraldo Reis Pfau, an artist from Brazil, makes these incredible motorcycle sculptures from old watches. Each sculpture is hand crafted from watch parts that Jose has collected over the years. And they really are amazing looking. Too bad they aren’t for sale, or I would think about buying one for my office.

Sculptures made of chewing gum

Gum man

Gum HedghogMaurizio Savini, and artist from Italy, sculpts all his art from pink chewing gum. Everything from people and animals, to inanimate objects like a globe and a gun. Pretty cool looking art, though I doubt that the longevity of his artwork is quite the same as art using more traditional materials.

Andrew Severynko’s Junk Art

Gourimand
Andrew Severynko is a Ukrainian artist with some very interesting sculpture.

NaveAll of his art is made from what appears to be random metal and glass junk. But somehow he comes up with some of the most amazing looking animals and objects. The Gourimand, pictured above, almost looks real.

An organ played by the rising tides

Sea Organ

On the shores of Zadar, Croatia there is a unique architectural installation. Nikola Basic and a team of master stone carvers built an organ that is played by the rising and falling tides.

What appear to be simple steps, actually have pipes tuned to provide music embedded inside. As the water rises, air is pushed through the pipes and produces music.

Snowman Art

Snow Man
DeputyDog has a great post devoted to nothing but snowmen. Check it out, the world’s best snowmen & snow art

Snow is one of those things I never see these days. Ever since I moved to Florida back in 96, I’ve managed to avoid snow. When I was growing up I lived in Maryland. And we would get snow several times a year. Making snowmen was lots of fun. And I do miss the white blanket of snow you would get right after a snowstorm.

Can’t say I miss it all that much though. The cold definitely got to me, and after a few days the white blanket started to look more like a hobo’s sleeping bag. Not something you wanted to touch. LOL So I’m glad I live in the sunny state of Florida were all I have to deal with are hurricanes(Are you feeling the sarcasm yet).
