Clements Library at the University of Michigan has posted a large number of scanned letters from the Sir Henry Clinton collection. The New York Times has an info graphic that lists the wealthiest American in history on a scale that is adjusted for inflation. By far, the richest was John D. Rockefeller. Bill Gates comes in as the 5th richest American. Each of the people listed has a brief history of how they gained their wealth and what they did with it. It’s a pretty cool list.
