I found these delightful insect art sculptures by Christopher Conte. He makes them using cast off machine parts and medical paraphernalia. They really are interesting. I posted a few of them here, but he has lots more at his site. So check them out.

January 17th, 2008 — 3d Art, Geodesic Dome, Lego

When I was a kid, I loved Lego. I would build elaborate cities, town and castles. Arrange the little lego people throughout the town and construct whole stories about the creation. I had a great time.
Jon Palmer, a huge lego enthusiast, has an entire website devoted to legos and his creations. Everything from robots and vehicles, to buildings and spaceships. In a recent post, he showed off his latest creations.
A geodesic dome made out of legos. The picture above is what the finished product looks like. Amazing isn’t it. Even more amazing is the detailed instructions on the site showing how he did it. Check it out: How to Build a LEGO Geodesic Dome

Andrew Severynko is a Ukrainian artist with some very interesting sculpture.
All of his art is made from what appears to be random metal and glass junk. But somehow he comes up with some of the most amazing looking animals and objects. The Gourimand, pictured above, almost looks real.

Check out his site for more pictures. Severynko.com

Found a great gallery of patriotic pictures taken with early cameras. The pictures are of national symbols, like the Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty, and various US military badges. All of the images in the photos were made up of service men and women at the start of World War 1. The formations and photographs were done by artists Arthur Mole and John Thomas. Who donated all proceeds from the sale of the photographs to the families of slain soldiers.

October 24th, 2007 — 3d Art, Art, Book Art, Books, Georgia Russell
Georgia Russell creates art by sculpting and cutting books. Much like the work that Brian Dettmer does. What caught my eye though, was the Alice in Wonderland cutouts that she did. It really fits the story.
She also does more abstract work as well. Look at the detail on these books.

A master sculptor, Livio De Marchi, crafts amazing things out of wood. He claims he can make anything out of wood. To prove it he has mad an entire house, furnishings and everything, out of wood. Chairs, sofas, tables, beds, even his car. Which by the way, is street legal, and doubles as a boat. All of it made of wood.
Check out his website for more pictures of his work, and check freshhome for more pictures of his house.
And for another wooden car that actually works, check out my previous post about a wooden car from Japan.

Saimir Strati from Albania currently holds the world record for both the largest nail mosaic and the largest toothpick mosaic. Both mosaics are amazing looking. He makes a 3d image using small nails in one peice of art, and toothpics in the other. Really amazing stuff.
Check out his official website for more images. Via PhotoPumpkin.
