Dark Knight in Lego

The new Batman movie comes out this summer. And I’m really excited about it. Batman Begins was very cool and really got that dark comic book feel without feeling campy.

It looks like I’m not the only fan looking forward to the new movie Dark Knight. A fan has redone the entire trailer using legos and stop motion.

And if you haven’t seen the real trailer, check it out below.

Star shaped forts

bourtange, the netherlands
Deputy Dog has a great post with some awesome pictures of star shaped forts from several different locations in Europe and Asia. Star shaped forts, in contrast to circular or square shapes, allow for unrestricted fields of fire no matter how close to the walls an enemy is.

In a square or circular shaped fort, once the enemy gets too close to the wall, it is very hard to shoot him because the wall itself shields him from the defenders on top. With a star shaped fort, no portion of the wall is ever out of reach of fire from another portion. So even though being close to the wall may shield an enemy from those directly above him, those defenders on the adjacent walls can easily direct their fire at the enemy.

Check out DeputyDog’s post for a lot more pictures: 6 incredible star forts

Insect machines

I found these delightful insect art sculptures by Christopher Conte. He makes them using cast off machine parts and medical paraphernalia. They really are interesting. I posted a few of them here, but he has lots more at his site. So check them out.

Modern Alchemy

Colored metals
Well, it’s not quite alchemy, but it’s pretty close. Dr. Chunlei Guo of the University of Rochester, has found a way to etch metal with a high powered laser, in a way that causes it to turn nearly any color you can think of.

What he does is etch the metal in such a way that it only reflects certain light wavelengths. Causing the metal to turn color. Unlike paints or dies, the colors won’t fade or peel with age. And the process works on every metal tested so far.

Just imagine, cars with paint jobs that are literally part of the body. Metal appliances and jewelry in any color imaginable. The potential applications are too numerous to count.

Restless mind syndrome - Finally some relief

Well, it’s Monday and this week is starting off like any other week. Very slowly and not all that exciting. As usual, it starts with me feeling rather foggy and having trouble concentrating. So I thought this ad for LiveScribe was appropriate.
