Rollerblading competition video

The video above is from a freestyle rollerblading slalom competition in Korea. The girl in the video won 1st place.

That little girl is amazing. The way her feet just slide right in between the cones and weave in and out is almost unnatural. Who knew rollerblading was even a sport, and why don’t we have more cool sports like this one in the US?

Man made tornado in a car museum

Mercedes TornadoWould you believe that the largest man made tornado in the world is in a car museum?

Yep, that picture you see in the post is of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. The architect didn’t want to build the fire doors required by the local fire code. he thought it would mess up his design.

So instead, he built a tornado. the goal being to channel smoke out of the building in the event of a fire. The artificial tornado, which was never meant as an attraction, has now become a major attraction at the museum.

Makes that crazy idea of generating power from controlled tornadoes seem a little less crazy.

[Edit 11/7/2007] Alexander(in the comments) pointed me to a great video of this tornado in action. So I’m posting it here. Enjoy.

Strangest Cleaning product ever

Mom Spit spray bottle
The name for this item is just wrong. You know how some people will moisten their thumb with their tongue and then use it to clean something off? Or how about when you spit on an item, like a shoe, and then polish it off to get a temporary shine?

Well, that was obviously the inspiration for this little product. Momspit comes in 2 oz or 7 oz spray bottles and is specifically designed for cleaning skin. it even moisturizes! You can order it at Shop intuition. Would make a great gag gift for your Mom. At least it would if she is the kind who can take a joke. LOL

Storm Troopers can dance too!

Ok, here is another one of those pointless videos. Danny Choo is dressed up as a Storm Trooper and goes around dancing at different street corners in Japanese cities. Actually pretty funny.

Found this great Flickr set of an abandoned Soviet missile silo in Latvia. With the recent news about US missile silos for sale, I thought this was a bit interesting.

Let’s Play Presidential debate Bingo!

Presidential Bingo

Found this cool little bingo card. Buttafly created it for watching the presidential debates. And the card is pretty funny, no matter what side of the fence you are on. Or even if you don’t like the fence model.

Maybe you can use this to turn those depressingly long and boring debates into a fun activity. LOL

Pointless cat conversation

Since my last post was about cats, I thought I would post this one as well. Enjoy this little cat conversation. I think it might be negotiations over a head cleaning. But I’m not sure. Can anyone translate? LOL

LOLCode.Net - A LOLCat programming language

 Visual Studio LOLCode

A few months ago, I wrote about a humorous site that was trying to make a programming language based on the lol cat language. You know, the funny pictures of cats with captions that are all over the net.

Well, I thought it was nothing but a joke and no real compiler would ever come of it. But I was wrong. A guy has managed to get a version of the code compiling in Visual Studio. You can even debug it.

Talk about having too much time on your hands. This guy must be bored. While building a compiler for a new language on the dot.net platform is supposed to be easier than building a compiler from scratch, it still can’t be all that easy. Anyway, kudos to this guy for getting it done.

Check out his site: LOLCode.net - Now your LOLCats can use the CLR!

Facebook adds support for Blackberry

Facebook logo

While I’m on the topic of cell phones, I’m really excited that Facebook actually added a blackberry application. I’m both a huge Blackberry fan and an avid Facebook user. So this is really great news.

I’ve been feeling a little left out since Facebook released an Iphone version. Don’t get me wrong, the mobile web interface works great and is highly usable. Way better than trying to access MySpace on a mobile phone. But the new Facebook app is a lot better. If you have a blackberry, just navigate to the Facebook mobile page to download the application.

Even better news, is that Facebook is adding an entire mobile platform API. So we should begin seeing Facebook applications for other mobile platforms as well.

How Cell Phones are affecting our world

Jan Chipchase a researcher at Nokia gave this very interesting presentation on how cell phones are changing peoples concept of self and place. I was really intrigued by this video. Mainly because I wonder what the future will hold for us as our “connectedness” increases. Watch the video. I personally think it will be worth your time.
