Archaeologists working in Israel have found evidence of a thriving beekeeping industry in the city of Rehov. The hives date from around 900 BC and are the oldest examples of beekeeping ever found. Beekeeping has been found before in ancient texts and artwork, but this is the first time that any examples of intact hives have been found.Via PhysOrg:
Archaeologists Discover Ancient Beehives
For my knowledge, bees are not mentioned in the bible – possibly honey? I am not sure…
Does anybody know?
There are three passages with bees: Deuteronomy 1:44 and Psalms 118:12 are comparisons of God’s wrath to bees chasing someone (who would rob them). As a beekeeper I have experienced this E.ven with full protective clothing it can be very intimidating to have thousands of angry females intent on doing a kamikaze number on you, each one with no regard for her own life and a painful weapon at her disposal.
The other passage is Judges 14:8 where Samson found the swarm in a lion carcase. This was NOT decaying flesh but sun bleached skeletal remains. Bees are hygenic by nature and only build comb in a sterile environment. The bees hung the comb from the rib cage – a very fitting structure for them. Really, it’s possible Samson didn’t touch the rib cage when he robbed the comb, though it certainly was pushing the edge of his Nazarite vows if not breaking them entirely.
Your right Ros. I had completely forgotten that Samson had found the bees in the Lion’s rib cage.
Thanks
Thank you both for the comments!

With your hints I found still another passage:
Sirach 11:3 “Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.”
